The berry's on the beef. These plants are the heavy early. Mothered by two Afghani hybrid cousins, the red and yellow. These were selected for yield and resin productivity respectively. The father was the most incredibly resinous. Blueberry Male from DJ Short Collection. This male had tight stamen formation. Solid purple male clusters as firm as then flower.

You will have a high yield of very large buds and few to no branches. The buds are exceptionally frosty with some purpling. A tangy and tastier aroma than other big yielders. The gland production will amaze you as you screen your trimmings. Also very potent and easy to trim.

Besides the intense blueberry jam aroma of the father, the most distinctive aspect of the plant was its chromatic resin. The top male bud was cured, burnt, and passed the test. The thickest male from the Shishkeberry Red line was backcrossed to the original Yellow to complete this amalgamation of yield, flavour and power.

The heavy early. Large production mother (mostly Afghani) crossed with a glistening Blueberry Male, for added flavor. Frosty leaves produce exceptional screening dreams. F1 to Shiske mother backcross.

Shishkaberry #3 is the result of a project to improve upon the cosmetics and desirability of two related Afghani clones, while joining these, the Red and the Yellow, by infusing pollen from the most promising male I have ever seen, an extremely resinous DJ Short Blueberry male in 1995, and breeding the two lines into each other. The Yellow is a bit taller, very frosty, and a great producer for SOG. The Red, is a stouter bush, fantastic for hydro buckets. Both have been harvested outdoors in BC and Eastern Ontario.

The buds prefer a drier flowering time, as the chunky Afghan influence will not tolerate moisture well. This generation has been selected indoors and greenhouse with this in mind. These are the best of thousands of Shishkaberry from several lines I have inspected over the last few years.

The male was the last to mold of all the males I left outside to test, and showed resin, not as much as the chromatic original Blueberry Male used in the F1, it was blueberry jam in a bowl.

The Afghani is very dominant in this Shishkaberry, but a little bit better quality than most Afghanis, and a little something extra in the colour, and aroma.

This is the definition of Spice of Life Commercial. Placed 2nd to Blueberry in the Seed Company Indica category, 2001 High Times Cannabis Cup! This is the most popular Spice of Life Seed of all time. The requests for the rerelease have been deafening, and it is my pleasure to let you know that the next incarnation of these are out.

We look forward to seeing what you can do with them. Flowering Indoors: 7-8 weeks Yeild Indoors: Fantastic! (done well) Yeild Outdoors: Fantastic! Harvest Outdoors: 1st week of Oct (Northern Hemisphere) The Resin of the Shishkaberry is outstanding! Jet Black, sticky, and strong flavour, people love the taste, but then they waste... It has stunned a few "chronics" here in the last few days. I love that look on peoples face after half a spliff or a few hits in the bowl, when they just glaze over, and silence descends.

I've grown the shishke topped and cola style on two occasions and would say that shishke is a better yielder with tighter spacing and no topping. When I topped shishke at the 5th-6th node it got bigger than I wanted it. The best yields I've seen with that plant were in a friends garden at 4 per sq/ft with almost all extraneous branches pruned, it produced very solid foot long colas in a 2 foot garden. Pruning the lower branches in my experience gives better growth to everything above them wait a few weeks after you start 12/12 and you'll have a good idea of which ones to clip.

I was impressed with the quality and the amount of resin. Yield was pretty good(could have been better but my stupid girl partner killed my best shisk mother). Flowering time was 40 days and not 6 weeks as advertised. How did yours compare. My high was of the deep hit you with a hammer burn me out indica stone. Not too much blueberry influence - thouh.

I just harvested 3 HUGE Shiskeberries grown outdoors (ask sly about them). Had 3 sizes but all eventually put out approx. the same amount of finished product. The biggest one had the highest leaf-calyx ratio while the smallest one's ratio was reversed and the 3 made up 1.9 lbs. total of dry, manicured bud with the smallest one (still 5.5' tall) having the biggest colas (2 14-18" beer can size colas from a once pinched plant) and the biggest (just under 11'tall w/o pinching) having a large assortment of "branch buds" along with a nice main cola...and of course the middle one fell in between (also unpinched).

Good buzz and taste but there's better out there imho. Too much waste overall in my experience with it compared to other strains and lots of trim-work to make them look nice. But it is a pretty plant that's fun to watch grow and minimal care. I did a few last winter indoors (finished outdoors) that never got to the size/quantity/ quality of the outdoor grow...also only got 1 f out of 5 with the indoor and 3 f's out of 5 with the outdoor grow (if that makes any difference) but all 10 did germinate in just the simple "finger poke in the soil" method. Btw, I purchased mine last winter from HBC in person.

I received an order of Shiskeberry from Laughing Moon some time ago. The buds are fat and sticky with a very hashy almost mocha smell. So far no purple, but two of them have a very Blueberry look to them, based upon pictures of Blueberry I have seen, but with a definite Afghani influence. The only problem I have with the Shiskeberry is the smell. It is very strong and although not entirely distinguishable for what it is, it is enough to make me paranoid about someone catching a whiff of it outside.

On Shishkeberry: I just finished up the Shiskaberry and I have a few notes on it, if anyone is interested. A friend made my seeds; parents were Breeder Steve's seeds. The notes below are only from one of the Shiskaberrys that I have tested. With further testing I will find the definitive Shiska mum.

Aroma - The smell put a smile on a friends face tonight when I pulled out da' sample. But kaka has yet to smell a thing. Allergies are a killin' and ka ain't a smellin'. A bunch of Shisks are drying and I can't smell them.

Buzz- The first time I smoked some Shiskaberry yesterday it really didn't stone me. Today it has whipped me :) A few hits on the way to school were a few too many, it hit and I became unmotivated. This evening a friend and I finished off two bowls and it was quite the experience. Fair amount of visual distortion, lots of laughs which lead to tears and falling on floor. Totally a fun indica.

I place it a little below the NL x shiva in power level, but still above average. I'd put the Shisk in the social indica category, with the nlxshiva toward the unsociable side. I did have to pull myself from the couch also.

Taste- Taste is mostly hashy. Expando in the lung is nice, exhale is smooth and left with a hint of sweetness/berryness aftertaste. Taste is good, this sample I would put taste on the mild side. I'll have to see what kind of differences there are in the mums.

Yield- While there were some runts in the group, most of the plants ended up heavy yielders. Plants were started tight but eventually spaced at 1/ft2. Two or three a sq. ft would have been killer. 3 mothers had the fattest buds with the top yielder being a topped Shisk. Yield would be well above average, especially considering flowering time, which ran me 49 days. For comparison the Shiskaberry's buds are larger than the nlxshiva next to it. Bud appearance- Buds look silver because they are so covered in crystals. Hairs are orange and few leaves that remain are dark. Buds look great, in this reviewer's humble opinion. Bud density is definitely above average. General notes- Shiskaberry is freaking leafy and takes tons of time to manicure, not that I'm complaining. There is so much resin on leaves including fan leaves that screening is a possibility. Lots of sticky fingers.

The Shisks were around 80 days old from seed and were done quickly in search of a good mother. As soon as drying has finished I'll offer up some weight numbers. Plants sizes were from 2'(runts)to3'(fatties)

  Shishke Updated: 2002-12-09
I'm on my 4th crop of Shishkeberry. I've grown topped and untopped. I would say top after the 5th or 6th internode. Depending on how much room (height) you have. Clip lowest 2 side branches too, as they will normally not make it to the top of the canopy and won't produce good flowers.

If you train the plant right you will have from 8 to 12 colas per plant. The plant will finish between 2.5 and 3 feet tall. My current grow I tried growing 2 plants per container and its too crowded. Because Shishke is so bushy/big leaf I would try to grow no more than 1 plant per/ sq.foot.-

Shishkeberry did great in the desert. very stony, stupor inducing indica with bb (sort of) flavor. very smelly during flowering...so use caution where ya plant it. it's as easy to grow as any other and clones easy. but very stiff branches/trunk so hard to train during veg w/o breaking stems. not terribly tall...maybe 6-8'... but I suggest it be grown at 45-60 degree angle from start if finish plant-height is a prob.

most excellent long and large "beer- can-cola" (among the best buds I've ever seen) buds on main stem with all branches producing...so I'd say above avg. yield too. IOW, I would never kick her out of the bed... btw, I'm at 36 degrees latitude +/- with long, hot season but Shishke finished around end of Sept to mid-Oct, if I recall correctly. it did finish before the majority, at any rate.

I decided to write this letter in response to the growing number of inquiries regarding my whereabouts, and the whereabouts of my seeds. Nobody can tell you I got tired of breeding cannabis, I got sick of the business. The only people that truly understand the dedication and expense of conscientiously growing for seed are people that have done it.

Selections require a lot of space, both indoor and out. Certainly the selection process is what I enjoy most about cultivation. Most growers consider such crops a luxury, or at least a necessary evil. The average grower is working for max yield of sinsemilla that is where the money is. This is achieved through systematically replanting identical clones from a high-yielding selection. Luckily for most growers they will probably get clones from someone who has already discovered it while growing a selection from seed. The grower is rewarded for providing other people with what they don't provide for themselves. That's cool, not every puffer is a gardener, for whatever reason.

I never dreamed of producing mass quantities and raking in a bundle, just to grow my own and share it, as I like. Factory-like repetition may be the rule of production, for this is how things get built; just consider laying bricks, or weaving a basket. When personal stash is the motivating factor for a grower yield concerns are secondary to quality concerns.

Prior to the retail revolution in cannabis seeds in the Canadian market, many growers gladly traded seeds and clones from their travels and selections. No one had a proprietary interest in "guarding" his or her genetics, every good specimen was proudly shared among all brave enough to continue the age-old act of cultivating good grass. Distinguished London, Ontario cannabis activist Chris Clay was the first in repressive Canada to stand up for our rights as growers and smokers and openly sold both clones and seeds in Canada's first hemp store. The Great Canadian Hemporium. Chris always had the tasty as well. Around the time the cops and courts shut him down Marc Emery was taking up the flag in Vancouver. Marc was no stranger to controversy and courts, as an alternative bookstore owner also from Konservative

  Steve Updated: 2002-12-09
Marc supported banned publications and free speech such as a banned album from the infamous "2 Live Crew". Marc published an alternative paper and wrote most of it. Being high in high school at the time I thought he was pretty cool talking about the evils of The People's Institute of Education and so on. Soon he would sell High Times and The Emperor Wears No Clothes.

After boring of London Politics Marc and family did a stint in Southeast Asia where they eventually got a not-so-boring taste of Indonesian Politics. Returned to Vancouver practically destitute. Made his start selling High Times door to door. Then he was able to continue to sell the controversy around hemp and highness at Hemp BC.

In Vancouver, Marc's boundless energy and enthusiasm for cannabis was fuel for an already largely hip populace. That dude sold a lot of bongs, and his seed catalogue progressed from one, then two, then three strains to probably more than three hundred. After Marc was busted for the first time selling seeds, I wanted to do something for him. I went downtown Vancouver and I told him, "I have no pictures or samples but here is a film canister of one of my seeds in the spirit of donation if you have the heart to continue selling seeds." He took off the lid and looked at those big fat dark coconuts and told me excitedly, "Make all the seed you can! Marc gave me some of the seeds that he was selling.

The germination rates were low and the finished product of those that did grow did not impress me enough to keep clones. I knew I was the pickiest of puffers and so began the beginning of my seedy career. For five years I had been saving seed of every favourite before I moved to BC. I grew outdoors mainly until then. There I moved indoors for five years after experiencing the cunning ruthlessness of the prevailing herb pirates. Up until my first fall in BC I had never lost plants to humans. I still don't really think of herb thieves as human and treat them accordingly. People that try and take from you what is rightfully yours are the most contemptible beings on the planets, whether it is your work, your freedom, your loved ones, or your life. Your nightmares will come true when WE get back at YOU.

As far as why Spice of Life Seeds have been unavailable for over a year and a half, it is because I had become simply too hot to continue growing. After Marc lost a huge consignment of Spice Seeds (that were not to be stored in the store, by agreement!), I had to tell my satellite growers, five houses and five strains, that they should plant their next crop for sinse. I had to do crazy things to keep up my payment schedule to them as a point of pride. I never want it said I left someone hanging. To Marc's credit he did an admirable job of keeping the business together through those turbulent times. I had to do crazy things to keep up my payment schedule to them as a point of pride. I never want it said I left someone hanging. The only thing besides my loved ones and my ganja that seemed a worthy expenditure of my valuable energy was to promote economical and environmentally friendly ways of producing gourmet vegetables and fruits. I was actually compelled to start keeping a line of broccoli and a few of tomatoes that were happiest in my bioponic system and really I knew all of that time that all I wanted to do was to start doing selections of cannabis again, to straighten out some current favourites to the point that they could be my finest work. I had to do crazy things to keep up my payment schedule to them as a point of pride. I never want it said I left someone hanging. I was elated when I got a phone call inviting me to breed cannabis legally in Europe. I had pretty much sworn off the business due to the prevalence of knockoffs. It was easy for them, I gave anybody clones of my favourite plants and likely still will. I firmly believe that there will never be too much high quality cannabis in this world, and that there is already way too much shit. I had to do crazy things to keep up my payment schedule to them as a point of pride. I never want it said I left someone hanging. I had to do crazy things to keep up my payment schedule to them as a point of pride. I never want it said I left someone hanging. I told Marc after numerous business ethical conflicts, e.g. Say "Sold Out" when a popular seed is unavailable; do not advertise to sell what you don't have. People were ordering Spice and receiving replacements, or deceived, not cool. I was and am still friends with many of Marc's employees and was often shocked at what goes on. Still am. I put together and made popular a brand name Shishkeberry, which achieved much acclaim. One of Marc's ex-employees that came to work for one of my businesses actually stole two shipments of my seeds before he quit the shop and now kicks back making a tidy living as Cash Crop Ken. He wrote up what he thinks he knows about them, and together with his fence, Marc Emery, exploit the name Shishkeberry that I developed and popularised. In a civilized country I could successfully sue them, but in the cesspool of Marc Emery's current seed scene acts like this are everyday business. Take for instance some of his employees working for shit wages and growing some good grass in their basement, thanks to clones from me they finally could actually get high from what they grew. These desperate boys are calling themselves Federation Seed Co. Let me set the record straight: Cotton Candy = Sweet Tooth, Island Sweet Skunk = Sweet Skunk, Mikado = Sweet Pink Grapefruit. These are popular clones I've named and let loose. They claim to have developed them "over the years". Flash-in- the-pan seed company might have been a more appropriate name; they've already crumbled due to a combination of incompetence and shame. Just having my clones does not mean they know how to produce accurate seeds of them when they attempt to reproduce them "over the years" I had long ago told Marc when he asked, that I was not interested in doing knockoffs of others' work, in name or substance. I claim what the heritage is of my seeds, to give respect and credit to our predecessors, but I develop something original. Marc was also fairly informed that if he began selling knockoffs of my work I would never, ever, ever sell him seeds again. I laugh at him now when he says, "Well, not everyone wants the knockoffs. Sell me more seeds, I'll pay cash." The last deal we made was I erase his crushing debt and he gives Spice of Life free ads for life. He has cancelled that deal as well, but I don't feel too bad writing it off anyway because it's for the cause. When I was shutting down seed ops for non- payment of seed, Marc was off to Cuba with his new girlfriend. I was Breeder Dave at one time until "a typo" changed that. Cannabis Canada published my home number and therefore address eventually. I have been arrested partially with his help, and contrary to my wishes. While Marc has pled guilty for the cause I have been fighting in court for a head's innocence. Laughing Moon launched themselves with a tidy purchase of Spice but that was a long time ago now they are selling their versions of my strains as my strains. Impostors such as Dubious David "Freedom" of I-don't-know-what-the-fuck-he-calls-it-now.com who never paid for his small order should be avoided, as should Derek the dongblaster who never even had any Spice but claimed to be the exclusive distributor. The Amsterdam Cafe owners, on the other hand, are always fair and honest to deal with, my regards ladies, kudos to you. They are roses amidst the snakes in the grass. Marc was so pissed I won't ever sell him seeds again that he screamed at me, "I made you, you would be nothing without me!" I earned my reputation with quality. Marc had it in for me since the time about two years ago when he asked me to run the Seed Desk at Hemp BC. The offer was generous enough but a desk is not my cup of tea. Smelling the roses is. He asked ten times and then became rude. He couldn't stand that I wouldn't work for him. To avoid confusion, until further notice, doubt the authenticity of anyone selling Spice of Life Strains except the Amsterdam Caf@legendsseeds.com, and seedbank.to. We appreciate it when you bring fraudulent seed dealers to our attention. The Spice of Life name has been synonymous with quality for the last five years and I will not abide its abuse by poseurs. I'm very happy to be back at work now and look forward to bringing you the best I can. As for the price increase the truth is that the cost (and scope) of my experiments have grown incredibly, believe me when I tell you that up until now and still I have not made any money in breeding, it has been an expensive hobby. However it is my passion and I do what I have to do to afford it. Lots of people aren't in it for the money and I can appreciate that, however I would love to be able to spend ten million on a state of the art facility, a monument to cannabis in a stable country. It would be a dream playground for the committed into the future, don't you think? Working to improve plants by cultivating and collecting plants from seed is a noble calling, greetings to all who ever did so with integrity. Sinserely

The Strawberry Blonde was named for the mother plants which were chosen from seeds out of a very expensive pound of mildly scented grass in westside Vancouver 1996. The pot was very strong to smoke, picked up the heart rate and made gibbled idiots of many. Only thirty seeds were started, they were not very vigourous but two of them ended up looking like the mother bud, which at a table of friends was dubbed the strawberry blonde. The smell is so faint not everyone will get it, but the strawberry shaped florets are the tell tale nugs. The golden stems are the real blondes. The father chosen was from some exceptionally ripping Chemo x African in order to maintain the energetic high. The progeny of the paternal side shows a darker green, the true strawberry is lighter green. Some of the lucky people to smoke real strawberry have accused me of lacing the joint with anything from DMT, Heroin and speed. Not for people with congenital heart defects. Built for headspeed not bulk. You've been warned. I would like to correct our gracious host in response to his Pineapple Bud quandary. As I was giving Chris and Andre a stoned tour of Vancouver I made sure to take them down to Commercial Drive, to that wonderful eclectic scene. Chris was given a nice choice of bud here as well as at Arthrology on Main St. The Pineapple Bud was not acquired at Arthrology but on Commercial Drive, I know, I was there. I have friends growing it on the island, in the city, and in the interior where it was developped. It is known up there as the Piney. I'll be damned if it isn't exactly like a baggie of dry candied pineapple chunks. Smells like pineapple while growing and tastes like it when puffed. Delicioso! Not real heavy but not too light.

I just harvested 3 HUGE Shishkeberries grown outdoors (ask Sly about them). Had 3 sizes but all eventually put out appx. the same amount of finished product. The biggest one had the highest leaf-calyx ratio while the smallest one's ratio was reversed and the 3 made up 1.9 lbs. total of dry, manicured bud with the smallest one (still 5.5' tall) having the biggest colas (2 14-18" beer can size colas from a once pinched plant) and the biggest (just under 11' tall w/o pinching) having a large assortment of "branch buds" along with a nice main cola... and of course the middle one fell in between (also unpinched). Good buzz and taste but there's better out there IMHO. Too much waste overall in my experience with it compared to other strains and lots of trim-work to make them look nice. But it is a pretty plant that's fun to watch grow and minimal care. I did a few last winter indoors (finished outdoors) that never got to the size/ quantity/quality of the outdoor grow... also only got 1 female out of 5 with the indoor and 3 f's out of 5 with the outdoor grow (if that makes any difference) but all 10 did germinate in just the simple "finger poke in the soil" method. BTW, I purchased mine last winter from HBC in person.

I bought "Spice of Life's" Shishkeberry at Hemp BC jan. '98, in person, but have no idea of what the situation is there now. Just thought I'd step in and relate my desert grown Shishkeberries. They are approaching harvest now, still white pistils but are showing some amber glands now. I figure 1-2 more weeks for these monster plants. all have huge beer can colas with one plant in particular (the shortest one too!) having 2 14-18" colas with beer can diameter. The other two are in the 7-8' foot range but instead of one huge cola on each trunk, they have more branches with shorter but still very full colas on many more branches. the shorter one (about 5') was left in the 5 gal. pot longer than the others...all have been in natural ground for at least 3 months and were started last april. the plants themselves have an overall purple tint to them with the 2 taller ones having those purple veins also. All ferts were stopped about 3 weeks ago and they're getting h2o only once every other day now. It sounds like we have a similar outdoor setup (except latitude) as I too have an enclosed backyard garden that allows for daily care.

Breeder Steves's sweet indica strains should be great for short sog situations. I'm growing Shiskeberry, and I have Sweet Tooth and Plum Bud to try. Everything I have heard about them was positive for sog-style growing. I like these types of indicas for the high, which is very up and colorful on the punch, and soft, mellow, sleepy on the downside. Great evening movie and the couch pot.

  Cha Cal Updated: 2002-12-09
I grew at least two, and I think three, different plants from the ten seeds I bought at HBC last year. The best female was of the massive bud leaf type. Though I couldn't finish it outside due to mold, it looked like a heavy producer. The high was surprisingly up. I don't mind the large amount of skuff, as I'm a gland hash fancier, but I don't like the large numbers of leaf stalks that inhabit the bud. Cutting all those out improves the smoke, but it cuts down on the bud size dramatically. Overall, not the strongest, but more than adequate, and I like the high. I'm will try it inside.

  Cha Cal Updated: 2002-12-09
Shishkeberry though, oh my, how I wish it would have performed better, because Steve hit a home run with the high. Sadly, the good females that resulted from my seeds produced the large leaf variant, and not only do the huge bud leaves make this a mess for scrog, the stems are also very brittle. I hugely blew it by allowing it to grow through the screen and then tried to pull it under, breaking off the main stems. By that time the plant wasn't able to recover from the lower branches, and I didn't get the kind of big knarly buds this plant can produce. Well, my fault, next time I recommend topping the plant under the screen and training the resulting branches as they grow; that should work. But the leaves, what to do about them? They're fricking HUGE! Like main stem fan leaves. Most of them get very frosted, especially near the bases, so this plant should be a mother of a source for trichomes. In a tight scrog field however, you would have to give them all a substantial haircut, and I just don't know how the plant would react. I almost pulled the mother, but I'm so fond of the taste and the high, I left it alone. I figure I could always grow a sog crop for stash, and I haven't given up on the scrog potential. It gets another shot. If you have the lesser leaved variant of this plant, watch the brittle stems, but check it out in scrog. It sure shines otherwise.

  Cha Cal Updated: 2002-12-09
First, there was a lot of genetic variability among the seeds I grew, at least two, maybe three different plants. I have read people saying that there seems to be a leafy version (VERY leafy) and a somewhat less leafy version. I found a leafy mother worth keeping, and I just started an indoor scrog crop for the first time. I grew it outside this year (see the outdoor board for a full description). I harvested a couple of ounces of somewhat immature bud, and we having been smoking it for some time. The pot is highly potent, not up to some of the others I have have smoked, but no complaints at all. I would expect the mature plant to be somewhat more potent. The taste is spicy and floral at the same time, quite mellow. It has an exceptional odor in the curing jar. The high is exceptional for a plant that is 90% indica (well, a 100% Afghan x Blueberry, which is said to be 80% indica). Somehow the sativa side snuck through, and the pot is very clear headed. I have driven on it several times now, and I felt sharp, right on top of the action and in total control, in fact, my driving senses were more alert than straight. The let down is a bit buzzy, which makes it more of a daytime pot than an evening pot. I like my evening smoke to be narcotic on the finish. Oh well, each pot has its uses, and Shishkeberry is very good daytime or going out to dinner pot. Not in the pure sativa camp, but if I can drive sharp on it, no complaints. It is a very good mixture pot in the evening, combined with an indica that is otherwise confusing in the head, but smooth on the let down. The Shishkeberry clears out some of the fog from the other pot, and the after buzz is muted out by the narcotic finish of the second component. People don't discuss smoking mixtures of different pots very much. I do so often. Caveats abound. First, the mature plant may be more down than the immature smoke. Difficult to say, I'm not even convinced that there is much of a difference in the high based on maturity only. Second, with the evident genetic variability, you may grow a Shishkeberry that is identical in appearance to mine, but completely different in the head. Who knows? In spite of this being pretty much an F1 per Breeder Steve, it behaves a lot more like an F2. Perhaps one of the component plants was not as pure as he thought. Finally, the massive amount of bud leaf I view as a problem. Yes, lots of skuff for screening, but I think it might have have mold problems in scrog. I'll find out soon. And the manicured buds have a lot of leaf stalk base material in them, which I don't like. I can clear most of it out with fine trim scissors, but I would hate to have a large crop of this stuff to manicure! Limited commercial potential. Still, for an indica-like plant, with good weight and a fast finish, to have the clear high and good taste that's a keeper until or unless something better comes along to replace it in the pot smoking spectrum.

  Shishke Updated: 2002-12-09
The Shishke does require a lot of manicure time. I wish the leaf ratio wasn't so high. I can't get over how big and stocky it is. Did you have to tie up those beer can sized colas?

Shiskaberry, according to Breeder Steve, is not an exceptional plant in terms of the taste or high, it's built for speed and production.

Oddly enough, Breeder Steve's Shishkaberry seems to have received the sativa high genes from its Blueberry side, and its high is very clear, great to drive on. It's tough to grow in that version, as it produces bunny ears from the buds, huge fan leaves. There's apparently a lot of genetic variability in that plant, and it's difficult to find now (impossible at the moment, says Marc, who should know). I'm checking out KC's Leda Uno, as I have read very good things about it in cabinet conditions. But I can't recommend what I haven't smoked.

Breeder Steve's varieties have their good points. I'm currently testing Plum Bud and Sweet Tooth, but I'm already sold on Shishkeberry. It has some growing problems (brittle, and the large leaf variety grows bunny ears from the buds), but the high is remarkable for being an Afghan/Blueberry mix, very elevating and quite strong. The skuff is prolific as well (an important consideration for me!). By all accounts the other varieties are excellent indicas as well.

I grew ten Shishke seeds and got three distinct plants. The one I saved is the one that grows large leaves from the buds. The production inside is horrible, like Blueberry. Steve may have changed the plant since then. My seeds were bought in 1997. SCW Steve could get 3 pounds per 1,000 watt light with C02 with Shiskaberry, hence its popularity with the growers who earn a living this way.

Plum Bud is a Breeder Steve (Spice of Life) product, probably not available at the moment. It has Blueberry and other indica and sativa genes. The plants grew strong, and are producing normal sweet indica type buds, average production prospects. Bud leaves are few and very frosted. The sticky buds reek of overripe citrus, just what you would expect from the genetics. Lovely. I picked some Plum Bud buds early, and we smoked a few nights ago. The buzz was super creeper, but very up. The first notice was a loss of balance, like early harvest Durban. The high was strong, low grade mescaline intensity at the peak (some of the intensity was no doubt due to a first time smoke). It mellowed out into a good awake stone. My wife actually stayed awake for a whole movie! I think the let down is kinda buzzy, not great sleepy time pot. I read it as day pot, but I would have to drive on it first. Good high, I like it, intense, but not paranoid. Not quite as wiggly as Shishkeberry, its cousin. Taste is kinda spicy/skunky, but it's early. The pot wasn't cleared or cured. It was tasty though, and that bodes well for the mature cured bud. I smoked four hits from a fresh Plum Bud joint and drove down to Seattle for dinner this weekend, roasted to the gills. Sadly, I was badly confused on the road. I smoked four hits off a Shishkeberry joint I brought for comparison purposes, and got equally as slammed. But, kazang! I was completely wired to the road, sharp, aware, completely in control, anticipating other cars, Nikki Lauda smooth, totally in a zone. I mean, really, better than straight. Night and day. Plum's high is good, but not that much different from other sweet indicas I have, my own Purple and Gold and Shishkeberry. And the letdown is not narcotic, but just a lessening buzz, with a very mild headache following (not anything I would rate it down for). The problem is that Shishkeberry beats it as day pot and my own indica beats it as evening pot, as it has a wonderful soft landing that Plum Bud lacks. Shishkeberry is a Blueberry/Afghan hybrid, about 90% indica you could say. And yet it's as clear as early harvest Durban for day pot. Plum Bud has some of the same genetics, but is suppose to be more on the sativa side. But it's a dumb high, like its Blueberry parent. You just don't know which set of genetics the high will come from. SCW The Blueberry family, including the Plum Bud and Shiskaberry you mentioned, are the best tasting plants I've ever grown. And the most troublesome.

Blueberry (D.J. Short via Marc) and Sweet Tooth both suck mightily in the growing department in my hydro setup. But I will say this: good smoke. Blueberry is tastier as it ages in the jar, and the high, while stupid, is relaxing without being narcotic. The letdown isn't good, buzzy, but that can be cured by smoking something else later in anticipation of sack time. Sweet Tooth isn't through curing yet, but the high is quite soft, not as potent as Shishkeberry or Plum Bud, to compare other Breeder Steve plants. But the high is not mentally debilitating. I find I can drive on it, the acid test, while the letdown is soft, a unique combination of traits so far. So while I curse these particular plants for not cooperating with yield, I keep the moms because I enjoy the characteristics so much. Good stash pot, no commercial potential.

Hello all, mine are at 43 days and still needing a little more time to ripen up. I'm amazed at the resin production on everything, fan leaves are even covered. Buds are huge on most Shisks, there are a few runts, but there are 3 plants that look like they wil make excellent mothers (huge buds). One topped plant has two colas that are larger than anything else in the space, and its the most ripe to date. I can't wait to smoke some. Compared to other strains in the garden Shiskaberry is fast flowering, I love it.

I just finished up the Shiskaberry and I have a few notes on it, if anyone is interested. My seeds were made by a friend, parents were Breeder Steve's seeds. The notes below are only from one of the Shiskaberrys that I have tested. With further testing I will find the definitive Shiska mum. Aroma: the smell put a smile on a friends face tonite when I pulled out da' sample. Buzz: The first time I smoked some shiskaberry yesterday it really didnt stone me. Today it has whipped me. A few hits on the way to school were a few too many, it hit and I became unmotivated. This evening a friend and I finished off two bowls and it was quite the experience. Fair amount of visual distortion, lots of laughs which lead to tears and falling on floor. Totally a fun indica. I place it a little below the NL x Shiva in power level, but still above average. I'd put the shisk in the social indica catagory, with the nlxshiva toward the unsocial side. I did have to pull myself from the couch also. Taste is mostly hashy. Expando in the lung is nice, exhale is smooth and left with a hint of sweetness/berryness aftertaste. Taste is good, this sample I would put taste on the mild side. I'll have to see what kinda of differences there are in the mums. Yield: while there were some runts in the group, most of the plants ended up heavy yielders. Plants were started tight but eventually spaced at 1/ft2. Two or three a sq. ft would have been killer. 3 mothers had the fatest buds with the top yielder being a topped shisk. Yield would be well above average, especially considering flowering time which ran me 49 days. For comparison the shiskaberrys buds are larger than the NL x Shiva next to it.

Appearance: buds look silver because they are so covered in crystals. Hairs are orange an few leaves that remain are dark. Buds look great, in this reviewer's humble opinion. Bud density is definitely above average. General Notes: Shiskaberry is freakin' leafy and takes tons of time to manicure, not that I'm complaining. There is so much resin on leaves including fan leaves that screaning is a posibility. Lots of sticky fingers. The shisks were around 80 days old from seed and were done quick in search of a good mother. As soon as drying has finished I'll offer up some weight numbers. Plants sizes were from 2' (runts) to 3' (fatties).

My Shiske mother was made by a friend so there could be some differences in the strain now. Shiske has lots of resin and thick buds. Potency is up there but not way up there. My NL x Shiva is more powerful and imo tastier. Shiske wont have any problem out yielding the NL x Shiva. Sorry I don't have weigths, I don't have scales. Flavor is hashy with slight berryness in there, no pineyness. Go for it.

I'd advise against trying Shiskeberry from Spice of Life. I got 5 females out of 10 seeds, but all 5 went HERMY on me within 2 weeks. Stay away from this one. I've done a little research in the archives here on the forum, and I'm NOT the only one who has had problems with this strain showing slightly hermy tendencies. See for yourself, do a search for "Shiskeberry" or "herm" lots of hits, check 'em all out.

Only my second Shiska grow, but pretty happy -a fair number of smallish buds, but they all look and smell like they've been dipped in some sort of potent milky white insecticide. What really kind of suprised me is that this breed is like a superior version of Hindu Kush. It has the same taste, only more intense; a very unpot like taste if you ask me, like smoking incense or something. The high is purely indica as well; take one hit and you definitely feel it, but you never get. really blitzed, and its pretty much all body high. I'd only give it a B right now, but that's for microwave bud picked three days ago. who cares! Have been growing Shiskaberry since nov 1, and so far this strain has lived up to every expectation and much more. For starters this strain has been made of a fairely pure Afghan (female) and then a very mature Blueberry. I have had incredible results for cloning time of five to seven days aeroponically and then given a week of veg. growth proceed right into flowering for six weeks and harvest of about an ounce per plant, not bad considering it can be done start to finish in eight weeks. Budcritter The Shishke plant has good hybrid vigor and it yields some hashy-spicey smoke with an up buzz. I had 2 hermies out of 10 females so keep your eyes out for male flowers on the lower branches. I made a bunch of f2's with the shishke and so far haven't heard of any hermies. Colas look silver with all the resin on them near harvest. Shiva Sweet Tooth: Sweet Pink Grapefruit x Resinous Blueberry Male x Grapefruit. These seeds are from the first backcross. Very Sweet, mostly indica. Fruity, frosty and fairly fat. Mostly lime green bud with royal purple accents. Outdoors the calyxes are prone to purpling completely. Sugar taste is almost sickly sweet. Keeps us giddy and foolish all day long. Height: squat bush indo. Flowering Period: 7-8 Weeks. Harvest Outside: Mid Oct. Yield: Above Average-Good Sea Of Green: Thick and Plump. F1 Backcross to Mother. Of the seeds that I've purchased, these and Sweet Tooth are definitely the best for overall vigor. They had no problem keeping up with my Romberry seedlings started at the same time. I can't judge the bud yet, but going by the parents, this should definitely be worth playing with. This strain rocks. Some seedling are a nice indica/sativa mix, others tend toward the indica or sativa in general. The nice mixed yielded very large, thick plump buds (head on a stick) with excellent resin production and a nice, up-type high (some paranoia). Very fruity, almost indescribable flavor like smelling/smoking a Glade plug-in. Clones very well and in a very short time, probably the best cloner so far. Even clones flowered at the 3-5" level produce reasonably well, but a bit late. There are several phenotypes, the best yielding of which is the gross upright phenotype, especially if pruned to 5-6 leads and flowered at 12-14". Nice leading producer. PosterBoy Sweet Tooth is the Grapefruit clone crossed with the Blueberry male and then the offspring from that crossed with the Grapefruit mom again. So it is 25% Blueberry. Shiske is just an F1 of Blueberry male and an Afi female I believe. Of the two, most people report really good things about the Sweet Tooth. The Shiske gets mixed reviews sometimes, but there has been a lot of good talk about it on this board lately. Read up above or do a search for "shisk" Personally I didn't really care for any commercial Blueberry strain I've seen, but I haven't seen the Spice of Life strains. They are hard to come by now as Breeder Steve doesn't seem to be making any new generations. You should check out Romberry from Heaven's Stairway, it's exactly what you want (heavy yield, shortflower time and sweet taste and smell) not so short on flower time though, 8+ weeks I think. ~shabang~ Blueberry or ST? On average, Sweet Tooth should be more potent, but this will vary between individual plants. If you are looking for a good mom for your main grow, your best bet will be Sweet Tooth. But keep in mind, there is more to a good long term keeper than potency. Having a bud that will keep getting you stoned time after time is just as important. Many of the old chronics keep telling me that anyway. They prefer top flavour to top potency. Vic High I would agree 100% with Vic -go for the Sweet Tooth or the Sweet Tooth surprise. Apparently, Emery's Cotton Candy is Sweet Tooth (Blueberry x Grapefruit x Sweet Pink Grapefruit). I have the original ST from Spice of Life and wouldn't replace it for anything! I've been bugging Vic to recreate it (he has the necessary genetic material) but no word form him yet. CedarNew Sweet Tooth via bongblaster: very sweet fruit punchy flavor with a hint of Blueberry flavor, extremely euphoric happy giggle buzz, very nice!. Grapefruit via marc emery: also sweet and fruity flavor, a bit more up in the buzz, happy cotton mouth high, very nice! Anon Those Sweet Tooth sure put a smile on my face, breeder Steve came up with a winner by blending 25% Blueberry with Sweet Pink Grapefruit. The grapefruit have a bit more of the sativa rush effect and cottonmouth the Sweet Tooth give me the giggles and always put a big smile on my face. Very nice strain. Anon Sweet Tooth: a fair number of smallish buds, but they all look and smell like they've been dipped in some sort of potent milky white insecticide. Who Cares Early Sweet Tooth Surprise looks good, taste good. 9 of 10 seeds sprouted, vegged for 4 weeks, they reached 8-20". 5 females, 1 is very much indica, 4 are very sativa. Indica showed in 4 days, it has been flowering for 35 days, it's 34" with an 18" main cola that's filling out nicely. Top hairs are pinkish red good amount of resin so far. I took some of the lower buds off that were getting shaded and dried them, the smell is very citrus after just a couple of days, the early smoke has a nice flavor with some potent smoke. Should be really good when finished, well worth . The other 4 girls are all sativa but very manageable so far (32-39"). Buds are lite so far but they probably will have to go another 6-8 weeks. If I had to guess I'd say the father is Peruvian Sativa. All grown in soil under 1300 Watts HPS + MH. Raydavies Early samples from Sweet Tooth surpise indicate better potency than Grimms White Shark, but to be fair the sharks are about 2 weeks behind the Sweet Tooth. Sweet tooth for me was very easy to grow, I got 5 of 9 females, 1 indica 4 sativa. The sample came from the indica. I'm sorry I did not clone her. But my clone area was filled with little sharks. Raydavies Ray, I think you will find that Sweet Tooth is not only more potent and sweeter in taste than the Grimm Shark (which is just not as as good as the Great White Shark from Greenhouse), but is also easier to clone. Sweet tooth gets a 9 out of 10, Great White Shark gets also gets a 9 while Grimm Shark gets a 7. had em all

Shishkaberry #3

Indoor/Outdoor

Specifications: Indoor/Outdoor Flowering: 7-8 weeks. Harvest: 1st week of Oct.
