Indoor/Outdoor/Greenhouse This Skunk #1 variety has been brought over by old Ed. Further developed by Positronics' Wernard. It is a true breeding strain, used a lot for crossing, to increase vigor and yield. Quick flowering for a Skunk variety, a must for everybody who intends to do something for their own breeding. Nice taste and smell, but sleepy if you smoke too much.

In the comments under Skunk #1 it says that Skunk #1 was brought over by Old Ed, well he is a nice old guy that brought over some seeds to Holland, but none of his varieties were stable and keepers, they are not used in holland for over 15 years. Old Ed had nothing to do with Skunk #1.

Indica/Sativa. Skunk #1 is now one of the most consistently performing true breeding strains in the world. Skunk #1 produces large buds with a very high calyx-to-leaf ratio. An excellent choice for the greenhouse.

I have tried Skunk #1, Afghani, Hindu Kush, Northern Lights, Ice, Jack Herer, Maple Leaf Indica, Mango, Cali Orange Bud, Sensi Skunk, Top 44, Juicy Fruit, Skunk#1XThai and 5 self crossed varieties (the only remarkable one was an accidental cross between Juicy Fruit and Northern Light, but I accidentaly killed it when trying to regrow....), and I have to say: SKUNK # 1 RULES! I am not saying it is the best weed I have ever smoked, but it certainly has "something" to it. The overall result for me, regarding overall yield, size, growth pattern etc has made it the one variety I come back to most often

Very high flower to leaf ratio. Soft and sweet aroma and a very strong "up" high. Excellent variety for indoor growing or greenhouse with darkening system. Very high yields. Easy to manicure. This variety serves as a standard against which others can be measured. Originally an indica-sativa hybrid, Skunk#1 is now one of the most consistently performing, true breeding strains in the world. Skunk#1 produces large buds with a very high calyx-to-leaf ratio. An excellent choice for the greenhouse. Originally a cross between Afghani, Mexican Acapulco and Columbian Gold and now one of the most consistently performing, true breeding strains available anywhere! Produces large buds with a high flower to leaf ratio and a soft, sweet aroma with a very strong uplifting high. An excellent variety for both indoor and greenhouse growers. Overall winner at the first annual High Times Cannabis Cup 1988. A Dutch coffee shop best seller. M9 originally developed by the Sacred Seeds Co. A winner of a number of harvest festivals. One of the most sought after strains in the world. Ten years ago the sweet Skunk #1 arose from an Afghani, a Colombian and a Thai. It is now a stabilized homogeneous hybrid with less than 5 % deviations. The breeding plants were selected scientifically. The high is very strong and up. Examination tests selected the plants with the highest percentage of THC. A THC percentage of 15% was indicated by gas chromatography. The Skunk#1 has a high calyx to leaf ratio. Large long buds. It finishes the first week of Oct. Growing tips often lime green, mature plant often has yellow shade leaves. Neither is deficiency. The yield varies from 400-1000 grams, with an average of 500 grams. Yields of up to 2000 grams (5 pounds!) have been recorded. Indoors-experienced growers can, by using the plantlet method, harvest 400-500 grams per square meter. (11 sq. ft.)

Regarding ...Skunk #1, Ed Rosenthal says he knows (it was) developed by Cultivators' Choice in California in the 70's. Skunk #1 = originally developed by the Sacred Seed Co. (Cali/ Holland) Sk#1 arose from an Afghani X a Colombian X a Thai. As far back as 1987 they were reporting its stability to less than 5% deviation. Now 11 years later it has to be one of the most stable strains around.

Original Skunk#1 is a relatively true-breeding cannabis sativa crossed cannabis Afghani inbred-line polyhybrid with a heavy tendency to its cannabis sativa parentage. Original Skunk#1 was developed by Cultivator's Choice in the late 1970's for outdoor and glass house cultivation. It has also proved to produce excellent sensimilla indoors under lights. Original skunk #1 is a medium green and medium broadleaf variety of medium height that produces large, long floral clusters with very few leaves. The yield per square foot of Original Skunk #1 grown densely packed and strongly lighted can approach 40 grams of dry flowers. The flowers have a strong sweet and sour aroma and the taste is full-bodied and satisfying. The high is powerful and highly stimulating. Original Skunk #1 requires 8 - 11 weeks of a 12 hour photoperiod to mature completely. Skunk #1 makes an excellent choice for male breeding material. It was selected from 50 different cannabis sativa cross c. afghanica F1 hybrid crosses for its consistent true-breeding qualities in a broad range of crosses. Skunk #1 is an inbred-line that came from a naturally combining hybrid selected for its crossability and true breeding qualities, rather than a forced hybrid made in an attempt to blend two previously selected individual varieties with specific desirable characteristics. In other words, Skunk#1 has been selected for its naturally high General Combining Ability (CGA). Simply crossing a select Skunk #1 with almost any other potent variety will improve it.

Well, that explains its massive popularity from 1980 - 1992, afterwards a decline in preference for Skunk began. Skunk #1 and Big Bud , both powerful and good yielding when they came upon the scene in 1980, simply had been outpaced by the developments in the field of commercial and recreational cannabis cultivation. My favorite Skunk experiences include these strains: Island Sweet Skunk (Federation), originally a hybrid by Spice of Life, which is Sweet Pink Grapefruit indica crossed Big Skunk#1 (Sensi Seed issue 1990), is a sweet citrus Skunk with a compelling high, and matches the description of the Skunk best. 60days flowering. Jack Herer, here, the Skunk makes the Haze work without paranoia, but its finicky and difficult to get satisfying results at home. By the way, in the CNN show Impact, 'The Prince of Pot' sequence regarding me, reporter Larry Lamott was standing in a room of identical Skunk #1 single cola plants (154 in the room) at 27 days into flowering. Has anyone noticed that really reeking, road kill skunk smell that used to be distinct has given way to other pungent but less cutting smells. I think Northern Lights with its low odor genetics and indica dominance in the market has in time reduced the skunky smell of pot, and NL and SK#1 are so often crossed these-days. The Sweet Skunk by Brothers Grimm may well be a further development of the Spice of Life Sweet Skunk, as is I.S.S. by Federation.

I've grown skunk 1 and hybrids made from it for nearly 20 years. To get a really a good quality crop outdoors you need to be less than 40 deg from the equator it will need at least 10 weeks from the equinox to finish. With good cultivation will make 3 to 4 meters high and yield a pound or so of good bud per plant. Indoors it needs a minimum of 50 w per sq. ft and preferably double and takes 9 to 12 weeks to finish on 12 hrs. Its 75% sat and cant be grown like a modern indica hybrid but when grown properly gives all the modern var.'s a good run for the money.

Skunk #1: This plant is super resinous, has a marvelous sweet smell (does not smell skunky at all). Harvested at day 57, it could have gone another 10 days. All pistils were brown except some at the very tips. Calyxes were swollen. The smoke is about 40% body, 60% head. I like it for relaxing. Can maintain in public. Wonderful aroma before lighting and during smoking. Buds are very dense. This one is a keeper.

The high is nice. It is strong, yet mellow, and yet still pretty alert. For overall feeling of potency, its not nearly comparable to couch-lock indicas that we have today, but it is still a good smoke. Anywhere in the U.S. this would be considered high-quality kryppie grade smoke, but it's not that one-hit extra special. This is definitely a good plant to start with, very easy to grow, very cheap, and should be good quality no matter what reliable source you get them from.

I find that no matter what I do skunk just seems to be light and not dense. I've used tons of light perfect nutrients, but the stuff dried always seems airy. Its super stoney, sticky, skunky, great weed but just isn't that great for production strain.

I hate the taste. That's just me, most people just think "oh that tastes like good pot" but I think it is pretty bad. It has a sort of sour-milk taste, kind of bitter. Hard to describe, its really not disgusting or anything, it's just the way the Dutch Skunk #1 tastes. When I first tried it I told him not to be offended but I don't like the taste at all. Then he told me what it is and I agreed :-) I have been growing sk #1 for years...my seed stock was bought back in the late 80's--don't even remember the seedbank. I think that sk 1 is a classic...very easy to grow, potent, good yield. It is very forgiving and grows well under many different growing situations, indoors or out. The plants are similar in size, with little variation. It also takes topping well, with little shock, and you can grow beautiful short, bushy plants indoors topping them. The taste is nothing extraordinary, and it takes a little longer to finish than some other strains...'bout 70 days flowering.

Skunk Special: Related to Skunk #1, big heavy buds, lots of cristals. Something special amongst the skunk, very heavy stoned. Large harvest; stays low and compact. The very original Skunk strain, classic skunk taste nice buds, good harvest. 9 weeks. Not too high, not many leaves, highest yield. Fast growing, good yield. Indoor / outdoor: 8-9 weeks. Skunk Red Hair: The variety wich made indoor growing possible since 1985, still the growers' favorite. A stabilized 75% Sativa, 25% Indica hybrid inbred since 1978. Sensi Skunk: A strong plant with that typical Skunky taste and high. It has a high calyx-to-leaf ratio with large, full buds (donkey dicks). Its excellent yield makes this one an absolute must for the greenhouse grower. Super Skunk, breeder Unknown. Strength: 7. Appearance: White-green/gold, mucho crystals. Smell: Pungent, citrus. Taste: Great taste on the tongue; lung-expanding. Effect: Satisfying. Everything you want in a buzz. Other comments: Good head.

Just tried another one of the Sensi Skunk babes from last winter's grow. Here's a profile: Plant: Short internodes especially while a seedling through about the 8th node, dark leaves, deeply serrated; sativa/indica phenotype. Aroma: VERY skunky. One rolled joint sitting out in an ashtray is enough to *stink* up a large house. Taste: Sativa taste; grassy, fairly smooth on the palate, not fruity nor piney. Yield: Good, 4 3/4 oz. on a 27" plant grown primarily for seed production not yield. Pollinated by a male Haze from Posi. Bud: Buds (trichomes) very gold in color, tight nuggets, fairly bulky colas. Good resin production. High: Excellent. Deceiving though: it is definitely creeper weed. Three hits from a J is plenty in that the high keeps on expanding. 15 minute lag time at least before it really hits you. Silly stone, trippy. Not an unnerving "Haze" type high at all, cerebral with a nice body stone. Comments: Nice plant, great high and excellent value. A few yellow male flower parts started showing just before harvest at 80% trichome browning (yellowing).

Can recommend Sensi Skunk for its value and high. Two or three good draws on a J is all I need. Nice body stone, good cerebral high, rather silly and trippy. Not anxiety producing although I feel that response is do to the amount imbibed, the setting, and the emotional state of the toker.

think for the money Sensi Skunk is a great buy. Potent, great high (not paranoid/ devastating), nice growth profile with short internodes until the stretch in which they get a little, uh, unruly. Density of colas is just what it should be, dense but not so much that you risk mold rot, which aint no fun! Nice skunky odor as it has been back-crossed to an Afghani parent. Smooth taste. Got mine from Freddie's in an original package, good stealth, good service.

Sensi Skunk is very good indeed. I tried some at the Sensi Coffeeshop in A'dam in the fall of '98. Very potent and a very clear, active high that did not wipe me out for the rest of the evening. It is a very old and simple cross (Mexican x Afghani) that produces subsequent generations of identical plants when grown from seed. It has a permanent place in my seedbank because of its predictable and reliable performance.

I have never been disappointed with Sensi's quality. I will say that I have found some varieties to be better than others within their seed line. Most other seed banks actually get their base genetic material from Sensi. Some of the bigger names have actually worked at the Sensi Seed counter in Amsterdam!. You won't find Sensi releasing 5 to 10 new varieties each year either because many of the best crosses HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE! If you want a bargain, and if you want a big yielder, and if you want a super quality buzz that makes you want to get up and dance (instead of drooling on yourself) try Sensi Skunk. It is a super deal for from Ubino, or whoever else carries Sensi. IMHO this might be the last variety you ever buy. Why it has never won the Cannabis Cup, I'll never know. It has been entered as a "standard" for many years now, and is a pretty old strain. I hope you consider it.

Skunk #1 vs Super Skunk. I've done both, and lots of friends still have the Sensi Skunk #1. The SS is fatter, thicker, more resinous, heavier smelling, and stonier. The Skunk #1 is not as drowsy and is a taller plant. Most people think the SS is stronger, but it just might be that the quality of the high is heavier. Sometimes you get much better smelling plants out of the SS. The Skunk #1 has a very distinct smell (not very skunky, sue me if you don't agree), while the SS can differ a bit and even get kinda floral.

The Super Skunk is a really good strain. It was a test strain for me to learn with. The potency is definitely above average. I love smoking with a bunch of people when they all compliment the taste and high. Little do they know I grew it myself. The potency is a good couch-lock stone. If I smoke just after harvest the high is really clear and up. But after a few weeks of curing the high is still clear only it puts me to sleep. Yield is slightly above average due to the heavy branching.

I grew the NL#1 and Sk#1 at the same time but it was 11 years ago (from Neville's The Seed Bank), and found the Sk#1 to have a more powerful high than the NL, but of course you know its a personal choice thing, you may feel differently. What I enjoyed was a few hits of NL and finish up with Sk#1. Boy did that produce a buzz! Sk#1 is really a great high.

A friend recently bought some NL from Sensi (original packaging, recent stock). In a tried and tested NFT grow room, many NL turned hermaphrodite. This room has seen many more complex strains go through with no trouble. Previous to this, I've always considered NL to be a good choice. Now, I'd suggest Skunk#1. It's cheap seed, high quality weed (good high, good yield), very stable, easy to control, less leafy bud than NL and will give you a feel for how Nederweed responds. It's hard to turn it hermy.

I grew the Sk#1 from the original Seed Bank whose stock is what I believe Sensi seeds use and it was kick-ass. This was 12 years ago but I would think it will still be a good strain, by all means grow it out and let us know. The mother I chose was short, indica influenced plant, heavy budder, never any mold and extremely potent.

I think (the Cannabis Cup winner for 96) it was Peacemaker, from De Dampkring, but I should caution you, this means absolutely nothing! I have been to Amsterdam twice, and some of the best stuff is the old varieties. Example: at CC '96 the Italians purchased all the Skunk #1 seed, by the end of the week, you couldn't find it. Also, keep in mind all of these varieties are a matter of taste. One of my favorites was Sensi Skunk, excellent UP kind of high, and I was able to think clearly, chat with the locals, and didn't feel wiped out, I had a great time. The night before, I tried a Jack Herer x Shiva, this came on very fast, and was very stoned (not as high as the Sensi Skunk, but VERY heavy, and very stoned) I didn't like it at all, and neither did my wife. I know someone will post that I'm a lightweight, and maybe I am, but my very best advice (after 2 visits to A'dam) is to ignore the Cannabis Cup results as I KNOW it is all bullshit.

The Skunk#1 I grew looked like an indica. Clones flowered early would reach about 18" with the majority of that being pure bud. She ripened in 64 days. Looking back now, she was the highest yielding plant Ive ever grown, wish she was still around sometimes. I may grow the strain again one day, when I do I'll get the beans from Sensi Seeds not those Canadian boys.

A question Skunk, what seedbank did you use, and whos seed? I was growing Dutch Passions Skunk #1 bought from HS and tried some leaves two weeks into flowering, didn't get any buzz whatsoever. Maybe it was because it was DP, I'm not sure. Smith I didn't like DP Skunk #1 as much as Dutch Passion's Thai, but it was good! My main complaint was that it was hard on my throat and lungs-not as smooth as the Thai. Also, it was grown in less than 4 months, and this really isn't long enough to get the full potential of its high.

I grew the Skunk#1 from HS last year, and that was my complaint against it -burned both my throat and lungs. I grew it almost entirely outdoors with good organics. The two others I grew along with it, Thai and Power Plant, neither one had that acridness; the Thai was sweet and smooth and the PP was also pretty smooth.

Germ rates on DP Skunk #1 sucked. Plant was hard to sprout. 60% success rate. Mine all had signs of a deformity but grew out of. To date I have had no females. Plant is difficult at best, this is the Dutch Passion strain. For dollars see for yourself but don't count heavily on the strain.

Don't worry. It's good. Most of the DP Skunk #1 individuals take about ten weeks to mature to my taste. It has a lot to offer for breeding your own F-1s.

I just recently taste tested an "early sample" of DP's Skunk #1 via HS and was surprised to find that it does indeed tend to bite at the throat. My samples of Blue Velvet and Western Winds growing in the same location were taken at the same time and treated the same way, yet did not have this acrid bite to them at all. The BV and WW have better highs, too. I have heard Island Sweet Skunk is preferable, but have no personal experience with that one.

Amsterdam Aloha Skunk #1: This puppy was MASSIVE. Almost chopped it down because of its rapid and early growth, thinking "It must be a male to grow that tall so fast". But cooler heads prevailed, and it turned out to be a girl. In fact, it was a BIG, FAT momma, who dominated those around her, hogging the available lumenance. At 28 days into 12/12, approx. 25% of pistils have darkened. At that rate, harvesting when 40-60% of pistils have changed color, will produce some incredibly early bud! What, maybe by 35-42 days? Is this crazy or what? Should consider letting the buds go beyond this rule of thumb? Situation is 1) Hydro setup; 2) 4 other strains in setup-> buds relatively undeveloped. 3) All flowers have been pollinated (which I understand slows down bud developement as the plants shift their energy into seed production). Aloha says 49 to 67 days. There is little crystal trichromes visible on the leaves. Is this normal for a sativa-dominated strain, such as Skunk? Experience on early individuals in a strain is that the potency is not there.

Miamor: Pollination makes the hairs turn brown, and causes the buds to mature quicker.

With Skunk #1, about 20-25% are huge yielders, much more than their sisters. I personally like to wait till 80% or more pistils have turned, and the resin glands are white, and not a clear transparent. Skunk produces alot of visible crystals, like its one indica ancestor, but still has a mostly sativa high. Generally, the longer flowering sativas have a better high, but this is often not true of indicas.

Just harvested some Skunk#1, definitely wait! Don't judge by the pistil color, I harvested at nine weeks the pistils were almost all brown but the resin glands were just beginning to get cloudy. I've harvested as late as 11 weeks, the buds at this time are more potent but not quite as energetic in the high. Tip: if the resin glands start turning amber, you've waited too long and THC is starting to degrade into non-psychoactive cannabinoids.

I think you'll be happy with either one. I've grown some Skunk and I'm six weeks into flowering a couple of Romberries. They seem to be yielding about the same as the Skunks. Haven't tasted it yet; people say Romberry is of superior taste (due to the Blueberry parent), but I enjoy the taste of Sk#1 also. In terms of an UP high, the Skunk has a lot more sativa in it and will probably be your best bet. I find my Sk#1 to provide a VERY energetic high, compared to the others I've grown and smoked or bought on the street. Not the most potent, IMO, but definitely the best tradeoff between potency and quality of the high. .

Here is my personal opinion of Skunk#1. It came from Heavens Stairway (Dutch Passion I believe) background. I had 3 mothers started from seed, they were each quite different. #1 came in the earliest (about 52 days I think), it was the smallest, had the smallest buds, and the least smell. #2 came in at about day 60, had the most smell, very very sweet, and the most resin, and was the biggest -yield was 3 oz. #3 came in last, about day 67, had the tightest fattest buds, plenty resin, not as overpowering a smell as #2, and a bit more minty and less sweet, but not by much. It was not as big, but yielded a very satisfactory 2oz. This is the plant I chose to keep cloning due to slightly subdued odor, great bud density, and most potency. About the smoke both my #2 and #3 plants produced awesome smoke. Be forewarned that early samples did not measure up to the mature product at all. At first I thought the Skunk was worthless. I consider Skunk my everyday smoke. I get body cues, which I like so I know I am getting high and don't keep toking till the head kicks in. The head is clear, not too speedy, not jittery (I find some indicas to be what I call "paranoid pot", not so with Sk#1). For me Sk#1 does not wipe me out. I do not pass out in front of the TV on it at the end of the day the way I do on Flo. I can consume reasonably large quantities when the occasion arises, without being unable to get up and walk around, even in public. So bottom line Skunk has about 40% body, 60% cerebral, easy to maintain on, very calming when under stress, but no physical drag. By comparison Flo is about 90% a body high for me, makes me very low energy and unenthusiastic about going out or doing stuff in public, great when I feel the need to pass out after too hard a day. I also tried White Widow and NL#1. I only got one mom of each and they were not good examples, and did not live up to the posted descriptions at all. The NL finished in 45 days, had almost no smell, no body, very low yield, way too leafy. It took too long by the time I noticed I was high. It was 90% cerebral, very clear, easy to move around, but not very potent. Often had to wonder if I was getting high at all. The Widow had low resin, took too long (60 days), the buds were way too fluffy. The plant looked like it had NL genetics in it. Extremely easy to clone. The head was clear with just a little bit of paranoia jitters. Easy to move around in public. Definitely got me high. Prone to powder mildew. Both Widow and NL have been exterminated from my gene pool. Currenly growing out some Durban and some Skunk crossed to a Flo male.

I find Skunk#1 a better strain than NL#5 for many reasons... bud size, resin quantity, less leaf, bigger... the only thing I don't like about Skunk is waiting 66 days for it to finish.

Also tested a Skunk #1. This plant is super resinous, has a marvelous sweet smell (does not smell skunky at all). Harvested at day 57, it could have gone another 10 days. All pistils were brown except some at the very tips. Callyxes were swollen. The smoke is about 40% body, 60% head. I like it for relaxing. Can maintain in public. Wonderful aroma before lighting and during smoking. Buds are very dense. This one is a keeper.

I tried Skunk#1, Flo, White Widow, NL#1, and Durban. The Skunk was the best producer, best smoke, and easiest to grow (most hardy and resistant to screwups). Going to try Apollo 11 next, decided not to go with C99 due to so many reports of paranoia and jitters. In all fairness, the Widow, NL#1, and Durban were not good samples of the strains. The NL#1 yield was vey low, and smoke was weak. The widow had no "white" to it, and was suceptible to powder mildew (the others in the same space were not). The Durban stretched like crazy, would not finish after 105 days, and the smoke was very weak. Imho, Skunk is awesome.

Got Flo and SK#1 from DP. The Flo was couchlock, low yield, purple: eliminated. The Skunk was a keeper: sweet, high yield, great smoke, clones easy, grows like crazy, nothing bad about it. The chosen mom has zero acrid skunk stink, just sweet with a hint of mint, very dense buds. Also eliminated was a super smelly super sweet Skunk mom, high yield but too much aroma liability. The aroma of the keeper still goes through a ziplock no problem, use reynolds oven roasting bags to control odor in storage.

If you're happy with your Sk#1, then there is no reason to change. Is there more potent smoke out there? DEFINITELY. Hybridizing is producing much more potent/intense pot. But hybridizing makes seeds less consistent. Laymen's terms: the more parents in the mix, the stronger but more diverse the children! In my humble opinion, Sk#1 is an incredible building block. It's got a very reliable visual high and great yield. Crossing it with an indica results in a most pleasant mix of body and head. For example, a friend is working w/ Sk#1 x NL5 circa 89' from the Seed Bank. It's not the most potent stuff, but certainly the most overall satisfying stuff that's gone into my lungs. I'd also agree that Superskunk is a great plant. It's got more body buzz than sk1 and the smell is stronger in certain moms.

The source is very important when comparing seeds, Sk#1 is an excellent plant, good yield and nice high... does it compare with Jack Herer, Romberry, C99, Apollo11 and AK47? No, not in potency, yield is better in some, but flavor is still a real nice one, compared to anything else I have tried... And as stated above, it's an excellent breeding plant. Moderator (Overgrow) I grew some Skunk#1 and I hated it. I found it difficult to grow. It had a long flower period that I could also do without. And the buzz was nothing special. Granted, they also were not the best of their breed but I didn't care for the stuff that was supposed to be the best Sk#1. I like all of the other strains that I have grown much better: Flo, Durban Poison, Hawaiian Skunk, and Afghan. I am going to try the Serious Seeds' AK-47. I have heard good things. But really everything else I have smoked seemed to be much better than sk#1. But, that's just one fellow's opinion.

I have made one grow with DP Sk#1 from HS and I'm really satisfied. Two mothers are being maintained to select the best, these two plants were grown on different setups, I have clones from both and will choose the better plant. Growth: very easy to grow, short, compact and resinous. I reveged both plants and this grow was with fluoros. Taste/High: skunk, with a fruity undertone I don't like much, but some I grew one batch of Skunk #1 from DP, Via HS. The plants are uniform, a little variation on the smell and cloning capabilities (one mother simply don't clone -even with Aeroponic's go figure). The smell from my keeper is very fruity (obviously with that skunky undertone) and she clones well. One plant was hermie. The high and yield is seems great to me. It is just my opinion.
