Breeder's Description - 'New York City Diesel'
|
The N.Y.C Diesel has its roots in the Big Apple, a friend brought the seeds and said that it was the best pot he ever smoked, he had dreads down to the ground so I believed him. This Cannabis tastes and smells like Ripe Red Grapefruits, once you touch the fresh buds you can't smell the other strains in your room or garden.
N.Y.C Diesel will leave you an Exotic Taste, an Exotic Smell and an Exotic High.
Took third place winner at cannibis cup 2001

Veg stage:
TOP NOTCH!!!
Germination was 5/5. 4/5 was the female to male ratio. I had to different phenos one that seemed more indica dom. and one that was very sativa dom. I choose to keep them both. Even though after blooming them I prefer the Sativa dom. Pheno. The fastest veging strain I have ever grown. It even smells in veg. . The vigor is ridiculous. It is they most healthy plant I have ever seen Veg. next to only the Afghan delight and Free Tibet. In 5-6 weeks you should have a great plant that should yield well. I could not be more happy with this plant in veg.
Bloom Stage:
People say good things come to those who wait. Growing many Soma strains you will learn that. The NYCD is no different . It is easily a 10-11 week strain. Depending on phenotype even longer. I choose to use the Sativa dom pheno as my mother. It is very strong and vigorous. The nugs are HUGE. You will need to support the plant due to the weight of the nugs. It yields 5-6 ounces (no co2) on a nice size 4-5 foot plant. Becareful to give it space it grows decieveingly fast. If smell is a issue might want to becareful, because this strain smells. The smell is odd though smells real sour not real dank smelling.
Final Assessment:
The taste is super top notch. This was one of the many high points of this weed. Smooth and sour/tangerine taste. It is quite unique. The Smell of NYCD was the best smelling weed I have every smelt. Wonderful smell of sour Tangerines. Like a sour tropical candy. It looked very good as well. Sugar coated nuggets. Very nice looking stuff. The High is very intense and strong. One of my favorites and will always have a place in my garden. The NYCD is one of the best strains I have ever grown. Many props go out to Soma for his stellar genetics. The yield of the plant when grown fully mature is very good 5-6 ounces (no co2). The Buds and smoke are top quality. I recommend this strain highly.

NYCD is a cross of a Mexican Sativa and an Afghani. I germed 4 seeds and got 2 nice females. These plants are a breeze to grow. They do get a little top heavy and may require some staking as one of mine did. This is an excellent yeilding strain. The buds have a Sativa look but they are huge and dense. I harvested at 75 days. The high is excellent, a little more to the Sativa side but very potent. I love the flavor of this stuff. It's kind of like lemon pine-sol. The hash is also excellent.

My baby's momma was raised in the swamplands to be a hearty & vigorous grower. She apparently passed these traits onto my little girl. While I witnessed the Diesel in varying degrees of indica/sativa mix, I chose the Indica dom to be mine. Out of the 10 beans germed, all 10 popped with only 2 males.
During veg growth, I kept her short & squat, trimming & FIMming as we went along. Veg growth was approx. 45 days of quick & vigorous growth. She had a nice odor during veg. Very mild but nice indeed. A snap to grow & she seemed to like her soil very dry & heavily ferted. I used a mixture of chemical & organics during all stages but for veg I used a tea from seaweed extract, fish emulsion & alfalfa meal in Hydrogen peroxide coupled with Superthrive & a dash of Peter's 20 20 20.
The transition was sketchy for me as I tended to under do the N & Ph, hence encountering issues. With a full flush & repot complete with super triple phosphate & blood meal, she turned around within a couple of days. Leaves began to regain color & all looked well for her. The hairs sprung up nicely and in the last week to week & a half, she really packed on the bud weight. As the lights go off, you may need to double up on your carbon scrubbers if smell is an issue. She tends to exhale big and really stink up the room with lemony sour goodness. I pulled her @ 74 days to maintain a bit of the head high while still getting the couchlock I need for the pain.
Overall I would suggest this plant to anyone, especially a novice grower. I have tried many strains and, user error aside, this was a very easy, low maintenance plant to grow. It yielded well (127g wet, 95g dry) grew quickly & kept me really really stoned for quite some time.

Vegged under fluoros & flowered under a 400 watt HPS. FLower chamber is kept cool (65 - 70 F) & veg right at 80.
I was never real specific on the soil I used but since there is a walmart nearby it usually wound up as Sams Soil Mix. I added perlite, a bit of vermiculite & seaweed meal with bone meal for veg & blood meal for flower. While it is highly disputed and generally disregarded by most, I also used Superthrive during the entire growth process.

The NYCD that we have used for the last two years is one GORGEOUS lady!!!!
The odor is pretty out of control, so BE PREPARED. The smell is like that of lemoney and fuely... As it should be! This particular pheno also has some skunkiness to the odor as well.
Another benefit of this particular pheno is that it is all mature by 60 days. This being JUST before ambering ON the plant - post harvest they seem to "amber" up .
The growth style for the buds has been described as "dragon tails". They are usually tall spires of calyxs that "string" off the main stem.
The stems CAN be rather thin on some clones that we've done - so occasionally tying is needed to support the mature buds.
We used an all-organic feeding regiment consisting of metanaturals complete line of ferts, as well as Liquid Karma, and MonstaBud. PH was consistantly around 7.
The overall ROOM TEMP and CO2 saturation was responsible for the excellent results - in addition to the MonstaBud.
This smoke is sitting on the top of my personal list of favorites, unknowing to readers - that says quite a bit!!!! I've smoked many of the finest available, and this diesel is just straight up EXTREME!!!! Enjoy!!!!
P.S. If you need to remain SMELLING clean in public - hold off on smoking these ladies... They're quite pungent.

The garden was all done SOG style, with a slight bit of vegetation time for the clones prior to flowering,(Approx 10-14 days). The reached an overall height of 28 inches, and were packed 10 plants per 10" by 22" tray.
TEMPS were consistantly 70 or lower, with an AC mounted directly inside - this also aided in creating a dryer environment and increasing resin production.
They were all flushed 2 weeks prior to harvest. As far as when to harvest, I usually pull SMALL buds off starting at 48 days....start judging the flavors..they do change as they approach maturity. When you taste what you like on the last bud you smoked, the extra 3 days for the UNCUT plants will be perfect......harvest time

I had three seeds, 2 sprouted and both were female. Growth was very slow, but plants were very strong, resisted heat well. Vegged for about 4 weeks total starting from seed. Had two phenotypes
First pheno: Yielded way less , pieces were smaller and tighter, didnt start to spiral or as I like to call it "Nipple". Plant was a lighter green, and was more sensitive than the other. End result tasted amazing.
Pheno #2: Very stong beautiful uniform plant. Dark green leaves, very resistant to heat and pests, towards the end the buds got so heavy that they were all leaning over. Very spirally buds, beautiful to look at and to smell. While it was on the plant I thought to myself "This is the one!"
End result: Buds were much looser than expected, really didnt seem like they would of been from looking at the plant. Also dried out alot darker than I thought. still tasted ok, but a little dry I found. Im going to try 1 maybe 2 plants next time under the same wattage (400). It was still a pleasure to grow and smoke.

Had 4 plants under 400 watts. My other strain (Jack) was way taller than the Diesel so the lights had to be a little higher than I liked it to be for them.
Fed them Ionic Grow in Veg, and Ionic Bloom and Boost for flower. towards the end I was watering just about 1 litre every day in an 8 inch pot. Tried to fertlize the least possible.
