The odor from these plants is pretty light, it is a nice smell... Floral and fresh. |

I think this ties into odor, if the buds have a strong odor they may taste stronger... I find the Haze Special buds have a very pleasant light smell of fruit. It tastes more like peanut butter tho! |

KC did a really good job with this plant. My ratings are very critical.
It is a Neville's Haze crossed with a KC-606. I have grown Greenhouse Neville's Haze and they were resin bombs, slim, long buds that resembled pine cones and covered in silver resin... The Neville's Haze is reputed to be one of the trippiest sativas around... KC crossed the Neville's Haze with a 606 for increased bud size, yield and shorter flowering time, they are quick to finish!
I grew Haze Special last year and had a plant that produced more resin than this one and bigger buds... I was not overly impressed with the resin production on this one. I cloned it and they seem to do better under Metal Halide than HPS, as the plants under the MH lamp have more trichomes and healthier looking foilage.
I used General Hydroponics Flora series for most of the grow... I used 1/4 strength nutes in the last 3 weeks. This made the plant take on light green buds... which I like.
I grew this plant to 5'. Tt branches like crazy but the buds were pretty small, lots of them but small "quarter sized" nuggets. I call them popcorn buds. Nevertheless, they still pack a punch.
I had no problems with smell or growing these plants. They grow very well with low nutrients. The only problem I see with the seedline is the germination rates, the seeds don't tend to germinate very fast and the germ rates were pretty low; out of 10 seeds I got 3 plants, 2 of which were male and 1 was female. I recommend you start at least 30 seeds of this strain to get some good individuals to select from.
The smoke is high class, it's very heady and thought-provoking; alert and smiley/happy. The duration of the high is very impressive.
[Update: Oct. 14th 03] Taste Of Haze Special Revealed!
I grew this stuff last year as mentioned above, I had a different pheno. I took it to some parties and people told me they thought it tasted like peanut butter... Personally I thought some of last years crop tasted like chinese chicken balls at times, but this year we smoked it again in a joint with a bunch of people and they said it smelled just like peanut butter! I was like, "hell, it kinda does" but here's the kicker... I purchased a Vapir vaporizor as a heath investment (www.air-2.com) these things are crazy... It totally eliminates all the bad smoke taste (there is no smoke!) and only vaporizes the active ingredients and plant aromas... Well low and behold! These buds taste like peanut butter! It's very apparent in the vape.
I perfer to vaporize now, I smoked a J last night and coughed up a lung, lol... You don't cough with this guys, the high is more of a creeper but it is real heady and alot clearer.

Seeds were a bit of a slow starter, they all did pop, lost one between the diaper and the soil. Some of these babies started moving right along and some of them acted like ‘failure to thrive’. One was like a microscopic but perfectly formed plant. I thought I was going to have to trash it. So, minorly disgusted, I moved them all to the greenhouse and they took off like a shot, all of them, very quick. All the plants looked just like one another, no major differences. Tall and skinny and delicate slender leaves/fingers. They all had to be tied down, they all showed sex fast, but were a little slow in early flower.
Three males, one shorter guy in full bloom before I caught him, but no seeds. I took one clone and let her flower with the rest. The clone took, just stuck it in some soil. So I had seven girls. The failure to thrive plant grew to be very tall, but she did not produce as much. This strain is not a big producer.
I had the big main colas and many smaller flowers on the side branches. A tiny popcorn bud does pack a punch, even the leaves around the bud are very nice, and they taste good too. The flowers themselves have that Sativa, not so great, turpentine/pine/sharp - pinch your nose! Well, I like it, because I know it´s all good, but it´s not the most delicious pot. Three or four hits from a glass pipe and you are good for four hours or so. More than that, you get nothing much done, and you may need a nap. Just a little bit and you can get more accomplished, including that which you may find intolerable otherwise. It took me a while to get used to this smoke. I am used to it now, and it´s a good Sativa, hits you in the head, never boring, and no paranoia. I went slow to start to get used to it.
If I did not need a giant yield, I would be growing this again.

I recommend this. Lots of fans this year.
Fox Farm Ocean Forest, Fox Farm Big Bloom, and water, twice a day during the heat.
I get direct sun from ten in the morning until three in the afternoon. It gets over one hundred inside the greenhouse. Haze Special could care less.
No mold, mites at the very end of flower, I just used a knock down spray with water. These girls did not get so big, and the breeder suggests this as a Sativa hybrid that could be grown inside, and I would agree.

This was a great strain to grow. I'd ordered my seeds before seeing the reports from fellow growers here so I was a little nervous at first what with the descriptions of peanut butter taste and all, but I must have got a completely different batch of seeds.
I germinated the seeds directly in the soil, plain old MG potting soil, and had sprouts within 18-30hrs of planting. At a week or two I began a light feeding schedule of 30-10-10 Miracle Grow nutes, fed them 3-4 times in veg, soluble silica was used each time. Switched to 12/12 at approx. 30 days, after separating the 1 male from 3 seeds leaving me with two nice bushy, but tall, ladies.
I fed them a mixture of 15-30-15, and 18-18-21 MG nutes at varying times throughout flowering, perhaps 4-5 feeds, still using the silica. The flowering cycle lasted aprox. 58 days though they could have safely been left on the plant for another week or more. Currently re-vegged the lot and am 2+ weeks into flowering again. I harvest by trichome color, 40% milky, 30% amber, the rest clear-to-lightly milky. Before harvest I gave them a few days in the dark and cold, turned some of the buds and leaves a nice purple color and increased the final resin production. Had no real problems whatsoever the whole grow.
I was not impressed with the growth during the veg stage, seemed sluggish and I didn?t really approve of the growth pattern. I thought I got what I paid for, cheap beans. But it's the flowers that count, for me at least, and I was in for a surprise at the great flowering stage. Each plant had at least 5 large buds that turned into half oz buds after drying, with many more medium and small buds. They look spectacular in flower I can tell you. I wish I had more and better pics to show, but am lucky to have the ones I do, bought a better camera in the middle of the flowering so you can tell I was getting used to using it.
I waited until about day 20 of flower to screen them, it was a do it before it's too late thing at that point, the buds were just big enough to make squeezing them through the screen a pain in the butt. The yield was very good for the amount of time I'd taken with them.
Med users do enjoy the Haze Special, seems good for both body and head pain but can cause some emotional discomfort (paranoia, nervousness) when too much is smoked by the low to average smoker. Is a bit of a creeper so these accidental over-smokes happen.
Stone: you can tell it's Haze for sure, it's a creeper and takes about a half hour after smoking to fully kick in, longer sometimes. But you know it when it does. Keeps you stuck to the ground, great body and head feeling. The taste is extremely pleasant, making you continuously want to come back for more (think the breeders description may even say the same! if so I agree fully). Curing makes it that much better, after a month cure I was in heaven.
Overall I have to say that this was a pleasant surprise to grow and I am keeping this strain and breeding it with my ultra potent mother Widow as we speak.
