Breeder's Description - 'Northern Lights x Big Bud'
|
Northern Lights x Big Bud was developed with the grower and smoker in mind. Big Bud has outragouse yield but tends to be a bit weak for the heavy smoker. Crossing Big Bud with a very potent Northern lights has made a more potent bud with losing only a small percent of the yield. The smoke from Northern Lights x Big Bud is rich and deep and the taste is lightly skunky.

Very easy to grow. Handled transplanting and high nutes very well. Low odor, would be good for stealth cabs. Had a little trouble cloning but was moslty user error. My plants had very tight internode spacing, and bushy. I vegged them for 4 weeks and switched to 12/12, plants were about 2 1/2 ft at harvest time and yeilded about 3 1/2 ounces each. Nice size colas and the trim made some excellent cannabutter.

This is my first 100% Indica I've grown and I love it! The second you toke on this you get the hit - no creeping at all, I knew exactly where I was - deep in the body stone.
At a party, where everyone had been smoking C99, as soon as this got passed around people went quiet and smiles came onto their faces - laid back and smooth! Ultimate chillout bud.
Taste wise, it's what I'd call lime hash - typical Indica hashyness but with a fruity element which comes possibly from the side of the Big Bud not the Northern Lights.
Good for beginners, but will still knock you on your ass after several joints - easy to pace with.
I'll defintely be growing this again.

NLxBB Very nice, clean daytime high, couchlock. Very big yield, didn't smell as much as the AK47 when dried or in flower. I grew a 6 foot monster, very big cola, very easy nice strain to grow and easy to clone.
Taste: I believe came from the nice Northern Light side, was a bit smooth, didn't have much tatse but was not harsh.

I grew these two Northern Lights x Big Bud indoors from seed. One matured much faster than the other and yielded about a half ounce less than the longer flowering plant.
First plant came down after 49 days of flowering (counting from onset of flowering, not from light switch). Second plant came down after 60 days of flowering.
This was my first grow and I'm really pleased with this strain. I have no scale but I estimate the yeilds at 2 1/2oz and 3oz for each plant. I'm pretty sure they would have yeilded better if I didn't make a few mistakes along the way.
Overall I give the strain a thumbs-up and will likely grow it again someday.

Grow was done organically in soil. Flowering nutes included Foxfarm Bigbloom and Alaska Mor-Bloom.
Initially flowering was started with two 150w HPS lamps but a week or so into flowering I switched to a 1000w Hortilux HPS. The plants really responded well to the switch to a larger light.

Grew out two NLxBB seeds left over from last year under a 100 watt MH. Took two clones of each plant, and sexed the seeded plants. Kept the two female clones. One died due to grasshoppers. They were transplanted outdoors mid June into 5 gallons of organic soil. Grew into one main cola with some side branching. Harvested Oct 5th; could have gone longer, but frost made me pick early. Total yield aprox one ounce of purplish buds. Good quality smoke and would grow again.

This is an amazing strain! Many people put down the BigBud for it's lack of potency... but I have found now that it is mixed with the Northern Lights it is a much better plant. The internodes are very tight together and the buds were super-dense. It is a very tough strain... I was growing it with Snow White and all issues I ran into showed up either only on the SW or on the Sw first. The NLxBB was very forgiving to nutrient issues etc. Again the yield is amazing, and the flavor and sent is a nice citrus as well. One thing I love about the flavor is it lasts right down to the last hit!
The high is also very nice.... Wonderful body buzz... (Weightless tingle type).. It harbors a unique body buzz to say the least. On top of that, it has a nice bit of heady high to kick it up a bit. It is a very pleasurable high. It's not 'one hit quit’ but definitely will get you there in a reasonable amount of consumption. This strain is leaps and bounds above the Original BB.
As far as appearance it is very very dense and very very trichome covered... it starts bulking up and getting frosty around 3 weeks flowering. Soon they get really sticky. When you break up a properly handled dry bud there is a pile of kif on the table!
All and all it is a wonderful strain... great yields, easy to grow, and great end product!
Check out the pics, they speak for themselves.

The Northern Lights Big Bud is a great strain for stealth cabs, new growers or anyone looking for an easy-to-grow potent plant. It handled transplants, abuse and high ferts well. I grew it FIM and scrog style. My yield was approx. 5 ounces (dried) under fluoros. I feel the total yield could have been more, but am attributing most mistakes to user error.
After it was all said and done, I would definitely grow this plant again. My planning will be a little better as will my methods next time around.

I grew in Sams Choice soil with 15% perlite and 15% vermiculite, Super Triple Phosphate for the pH balance and some cow manure.
In vegetative growth I used Alaskan fish emulsion @ 1/4 strength in every watering and slowly increased to 2X strength by end of veg growth.
After preflowering I transplanted all females [4 of 5] to 3 gallon rectangular garbage cans and added 2 table spoons bloodmeal to soil mix.
During flowering I used FoxFarms bigbloom @ full strength every other watering. I watered every 2-4 days depending on the weight of the container.
I did encounter a gnat problem and used a soap solution then let plants completely dry out. Probably 6 days before watering again.
My lighting setup:
Primary veg: 320 w cool white fluoro
Secondary veg: 480 w cool whites
Tertiary veg:1400 w cool whites VHO
Flowering: 1100 full spectrum/warm whites combo VHO

I planted 9 seeds, 8 sprouted, 3 females survived through flowering. The plants were vegged for 35 days and flowered for first 2 weeks under 300 watts of shoplight provided flouro. Plants were then flowered under 400 watt hps for an additional 60 days.
I didn't run into too many problems during veg, the plants were all about 18 inches tall with very short internodal growth. I kept the plants in small half gallon containers during veg to keep them from growing too tall, as height was an issue.
I had a big problem with temperature during flowering with the hps, temps hit 100f on several occasions. This strain is so hardy though, the plants handled it well.
Two different phenos showed once the plants started budding, one was very indica, the buds clung tight to the plants stalk, making almost 2/3s of the plant one solid bud. The other pheno stretched out a bit more, but yielded better, the difference between the two isn't really that big though.
I ended up yielding a little over 3 ounces from the plants, this is even with harvesting one of the plants way too early, and several general newby mistakes with fertilizer levels. The smoke is pretty smooth, and decently potent but really doesn't have much flavor, hopefully it will come about a bit more in the weeks of curing to come.
I would definitely reccomend this strain to growers looking for a hardy solid producing plant, I will grow it again myself, and hope to improve upon my own results. You could probably take my yields and double them if your an experienced or even solid grower. I fully expect the plant to produce a lot better with different ferts and much lower temps

NL#5 x BigBud is a GREAT beginner strain! This was my very first grow and these plants took some heavy abuse during the early stages due to my lack of experience, especially with watering. To my surprise, they bounced back beautifully every time. A very forgiving strain!
I was lucky to have a 100% germination rate from the 9 seeds I planted (into Scott's Seed Starting Soil). SIX of the 9 seeds turned out to be female (three males). My cab only holds (5) 10" pots, so during my final transplant (after they showed sex) I picked the best-looking five and had to chop the sixth along with her 3 boyfriends.
The veg stage started off slow due to my under watering and overall inexperience. Once I transplanted into 6" pots, healthy growth began immediately! Lots of healthy green leaves and stems and when you figure out the watering, these babies really can take off! I vegged until they were all at least 12" tall. My tallest at the 12/12 switch was 17" tall, and turned out to be the tallest at Harvest at 3'4".
After switching to 12/12, the five ladies stretched about double in size, if not a tad more! The grow was a breeze after going into flowering, as I just sat back and watched my babies get nice and chunky. I soaked my 10" pots (flowering) every 3 to 4 days, but giving at least a heavy misting EVERY day. They loved it. Colas ended up being fat as hell! Two of the 5 turned out to be of different pheno type (see the last two plant pics, both on day 54 but different-looking colas).
After harvesting, I smoked some of the lower bud which dropped off during chopping/trimming and was VERY IMPRESSED right from the start, before any curing. This being my first grow, I never expected to make it to the finish line!
I have 6 loaded mason jars that will last me plenty and the smoke gets better and better the more it is cured! The flavor is mild, but what there is of it is very pleasant. The high starts out in the head and slowly works it's way to the body. I love this high! More active than the boring ol' couchlock, but you eventually land there if you smoke too much!
I yielded approximately 1.5 ounces from each of my five plants (~7.5-8 ounces) from my organic soil grow in a cabinet approx. 5 sq ft. using a 250 HPS.
In short (heh heh), this was a kick-ass strain, especially if you are learning to grow. Cheap seeds, very forgiving, and a nicely-balanced high. Hope some of this helps somebody. PEACE.

10 NLxBB seeds were germed along with 10 B52s(a whole different story). The 5 most vigorous were selected and grown on an NFT 604 with the 5 B52s.
VEG growth:18/6.Early growth was vigorous producing a short squat plant with lime green leaves. They seemed to appreciate very much a graduated nute program erring on the low side of the Cf scale.
At 6 weeks and with height of 16-18",flowering was induced.
Flowering:12/12:Early stretching was quick but slowed considerably in comparison to the B52s.Between 7 and 15 days from the light change,2 females had shown themselves and of course the males were pulled.Pistil growth was spectacular, the plants soon leaving the B52s far behind. The buds started to pack it on around day 30 and continued until harvest which was at day 61.Ina ll honesty the plants could have gone another week but circumsatnces meant they had to finish. As You can see on the photos the finished colas were very impressive in size. What the photos can't convey is the stickiness of the flowers.
Odour:I utilise a carbon filter and it was most definitely required.Althought the smell was by no means overpowering it was detctable in the nest room and a filter has to be recommended.
Yield:The 2 plant yielded approx 5 OZ each dry.I am more than happy with that.I knwo of people who have yielded more but also of people who have gotten less so I'll settle for what I got.
Effects:This baby is all in the head.(Possible because they were pulled slightly early?)but its the headiest buzz I've had for a while.Coming home at 10pm yesterday after a 14 hour shift,it kept me up till after midnight all tiredness gone.
Taste:Presently, the buds are still curing. The taste and smell is detectable and is lemony with a spicy kick but the juries still out on this.
