Being from the NW I used to get NL#5 back in the day all the time, it was the local favorite for many years spanning the 80s and 90s. Then it all seemed to kind of dry up after BC bud became what you would normally see. So ever since I started growing I have allways wanted to see if I could get a good NL#5 plant. I didn't have any good connections to get the clone so the next best thing was seeds. I researched my ass off and after looking at all my options i.e.: Sensi's NL, Sag's NL#9, Nivana's NL, or BCSC's NL#5 I dicided to go with BC's. Their discription sounded exactly like what I wanted, a short high yielding branchy plant with great resin production and high. The tripple threat right?
Well I finally did it, I bought two packs of NL#5 and started all 24 seeds I was really only looking for that one pheno so I figured with 24 seeds I had a damm good shot.
All but 1 seed germed and then one didn't come up so I was down to 22. They all did fine as sprouts and there were no aparent runts in the mix. I transfered them into my veg room under a 1k MH once they had their first set of true leaves. They grew well in veg and I ended up with 5 males that showed in veg.
I transfed them into bloom after a month of veg. They all showed strong indica traits as advertised, some you could tell were more calumner and others more branchy. Four more ended up being males and were killed, so I was down to 13, one over 50% no complaints here.
Once they started to flower two different phenos apeared, the columnar pheno and the more brancy pheno, there were 5 columnar and 8 branchy. The columnar phenos remained shorter and the branchy phenos had more of a streach but none over 125%.
The columnar phenos were good they had average resin on most with two having slightly above average. One had a nice orange citus smell. The columnar pheno was ok, but nothing special.
The branchy pheno was my real hope because I already knew that is what I wanted, as opposed to the more columnar pheno. Unfortunately the brancy pheno of which there was 8 plants were almost all crap. Three had to be killed at 30 days because they were straight up hermi's and not just bannana's either (which all but 1 brachy pheno had) but full on nut sacks growing out of the buds. So I was down to 5 branchy pheno's after that. Those left had below average resin production with a generic, skunky/fuely smell and no pungency/potency at all.
Need less to say I was very disapointed with NL#5 from BCSC and would't recomend it to anyone. It was a total waste of time.
The pics I included with this report are mainly from the columnar pheno's as they were the only ones photo worthy but I also included a couple of pics of a brancy pheno for you guys to see.
