Breeder's Description - 'Original Flo'
|
Original Flo is a Sativa/Indica cross (60% Sativa/ 40% Indica) with very Sativa-phenotypic characteristics that also matures very early. The large, tight, spear-shaped buds are made up of small, densely packed purple calyxes. The plants are taller and like to branch out. Indoors the buds are fully mature by the end of their sixth week. "Flo" is ideal for greenhouse production. The motivational "high" produced by "Flo" is quite unique; the flavor is like Nepalese Temple Hash. A most pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Veg:
The seeds took 48 hours to germ, and another 24 hours to pop through, but took a while to take off due to low temps at the time.
I only did 3 plants, 2 of which were deformed, but luckily the 1 left turned out to be female.
From planting, it took 6 weeks to veg, bearing in mind I tied them down for extra growth (LST), so normally I'd say it would have took 4 weeks without any training to about 10" or so.
Flower:
Once I triggered them at 9 - 10" tall, they grew faster than all the other plants I was growing at the time, looking very sativa dominant, the nodes about 3cm apart, though it wasn't a skinny plant.
Feeding the Flo comes with a note of CAUTION, as it is very prone to over - fertilizing, be careful with the strength of your fertilizer, I only used half strength, and that was plenty, flushing at 34 days, and adding the PK 13-14 at day 40.
The stature of the Flo is quite tall and slender, but it doesn't take up a lot of room, this one ended up at 35" tall.
When in late flower the smell of the Flo turns really bitter, as the leaves start to turn purple. What was once a pleasant bubblegum/lemon citrus smell, is now a hashy bitter smell, although quite unique and hard to describe, a bit like the stone/high itself of the Flo.
Flowering took 64 days, but could be chopped at 55 - 60 no problems, I just let it go quite long.
Curing took approx 3 weeks, hung it up for a week, then dried it out for a further 2 weeks, but I put some away and forgot about it and after another 3 weeks or so i smoked it, and let me tell you, there was a hell of a difference in potency, my south-African mate said it was very close to African Rooibart with a huge grin.
High:
The high is very spacey, and quite strong, although it doesn't hit you hard, more of a 'creeper' weed I'd say, you find yourself drifting in and out of reality, definitely a day - dreamer weed, very trancy.

I've grown her inside and outside and love her either way.
Inside under 430 watts she is a little tall but with proper pruning can give a very good harvest. Lots of crystally buds on long tops but no huge Yule logs. She is somewhat picky about watering and nutes. I grow organic in live soil inside and out.
Outside in good sun she gets huge and each branch turns into a separate Christmas tree shape and needs staking. Many, many long tops with rock hard but thin colas. I had a plant outside which required 13 stakes to hold the heavy branches up and it yielded over two pounds of quality colas.
Out of the ten seeds I received there was much variation in offspring.
One was all purple, so purple it looked black, but the smoke was terrible tasting and there was no high.
One was a totally thin leaved sativa looking plant but was male and sterile.
The one I love most was a green, mixed looking but more to the sativa side plant, very potent and tasty. That has been my main mother plant and is in all the pictures.
I just harvested a couple more potential mothers, one has purple calyxes and green leaves and is strong but not as flavorful as the main mother and another, a green plant with a powerful high and good taste.
I believe this variety has been underrated. I think there is a lot of variety in each pack of seeds and you need to search for a good mom. I have found real winners in a couple of seeds in this pack. It's taken some searching and a lot of time and space but with great reward. Everybody who smokes the Flo loves it and wants more. It's my favorite daytime smoke very soaring active high, but it can nail you down with its power too if you smoke too much at once. But still the mind flies along with vivid ideas and visions; music becomes more intense and easier to connect with. I love Floooooo

February, 2001 |
I germinated 3 seeds and all popped. Two of them were female. Something unique I noticed about Flo is that the main stem is trying to put out roots. I found a good mother out of the few plants I had. The buds from 1 of the phenos I got were nothing but resinous bracts. The other pheno was a little more dense and squat. The high is trippy clear, and up. Very nice smoke. Cloning was a joy with this strain. It practically throws roots out at you.
Vegetative growth was lush and green with a little sativa stretch. No need to tie this one down unless you veg for more than a week or two. Just a little skunk smell during vegging.
Flowering is just a little tricky. This is not a beginner strain. It is very sensitive to nutes and temps. I would recommend organic nutes. If you balance that right you're in for a treat. Flo smells like sweet grape honey during flowering. I would recommend odor control.
This is also a strain that begs for proper curing and storage. After a 3 month cure it really jumps out at you. The high is very up and trippy. The first time I smoked it I ended up slightly paranoid, and my heart pounding. After getting used it's complex high I realize it to be a very useful strain for everything from having great sex, to playing music. Very visual high that will last all day.

Mother kept under fluoros fertilized with grow big. Cloning was done in a homemade aerocloner. After rooting they were transplanted into 2 gallon containers with light warrior. Vegged for 2 weeks. They then were dropped into my dual 400 watt flowering chamber under 12/12 and fed Tigerbloom. and Big Bloom.

First I have to say that Flo is a special part of the Blue family.
This report is based on 1 seedpack that was started indoor but was later grown on differend locations. The best optical lookin' seed was saved and is not a part of this report.
Germination:
9 seeds were started directly in soil (moist and ph tested) in small pots. All germinated nicely in a week. Only 1 was a bit slow responding and appeared a few days later.
Seedling/Veg.
Some seedling were purple/pink colored. Plants were stabilized in a good week and veg stage has begun. One was growing big like a queen, she overgrowed all, while 1 other was showing anomalies on the leaves and was working slowly. These 2 plants were moved on the balcony (it was late summer). The others were more or less similar in structure, lookin' like most sativa dominant varieties in their young stage.
3 plants were given to a trusted local grower and are not a part of my report from this point now.
Indoor plants were vegged 1 week, this means after good 2 weeks (seedling+veg) under 16/8, I turned the lights on 11/13.
Healthy leaves appeared on the mutant after a week of sunlight. The so called queen was bigger & bigger every day. This variety simply loves the sun.
Flowering
Indoors they were growing taller and had a tendence to branch out, some plants more than others. Almost green calyxes, only a few turned purple, starting at the beginning of flowering... Some colors also on the leaves. First buds were ready in 45 days, some were harvested after 50days, others a week later. A few buds were ful matured (cloudy/amber trichomes) while many parts of the plant were making new, fresh nuggets with white hairs & clear trichs. This variety has a force for flowering and can be multi-harvested. The plants will not die if the conditions are fine. A relative constant ph and racional watering will care for a happy root system. Organic fertilizers are recommended and generally lower levels of nutrients for the Blue family, plant/pot/size dependent.
Outdoor (balcony) Flo flowering was an interesting process.
The bud density is overall higer than indoors. The "mutant" was small with a very thick, deep purpled stem. The first nuggs from the queen were harvested while this mutant was in the preflowers stage and smelling fresh in the tropical way. The stem from the queen' was green, also leaves, but she produced small, rock hard nuggs with deep purple/red colors and a hashy aroma,a little rough. Later were also leaves & stem purpling because of cold nights in the last weeks of flowering. The "mutant" was obviously a late flowering flo pheno. A nice colored beauty with fat calyxes, coated with a high concentration of small trichomes. Deep lovely fresh/floral aroma. This was by far the best smelling/tasting Flo.
A word about The Smoke
Phenos and environment are resulting with differend aromas and types-of-High.
The deep colored buds from the queen had a bit hashy taste but no so sweet and the high was not good in relation with indoor plants.
Indoor buds were tasty, some kind of a fruit mix. Soft smoke and delivered a productive up'high which is stimulative, comfortable and enjoyable, but rather more intensive than long lasting.
The best came out of the late flowering flo pheno. Excellent taste & great appeal. Smile-Up effects, ideal for doing any kind of stuff, for a happy nice day or active parties in the evening, but it can get complex if smoking much in a short time.
Overall a very strong plant. The quality is in the experience, not so much in the yield, which is average. Nice colored variety!
